Walk One - Naked tree and Red Sun

Two small birds rest in the neck and shoulder

of a naked tree,

while two more explore,

hovering above ground,

beneath their guardian.

Tall red flowers sway in the wind of Fall

like tall people in red hats.

Their softness is a delight, their firmness admirable,

and their saturated red is fiery and fierce.

The head of a tiger, trapped in stone,

as if it had been struck frozen by an early Winter,

sits in waiting beneath a big dangling sign.

The vintage sign’s gleaming suggests a magnetizing glare

in the spontaneity of night.

Across the street,

a bright red circle of tree rests

on the front door of a family’s home;

a shortcut to holiday tradition.

A few feet away is Montrose street.

The tall sign looms above me, chic and mysterious.

It glistens in what’s left of the day’s light.

Through its portal, the smell of Montrose street is fresh and endearing,

as I approach a small park I’ve never seen before.

My nose is caressed as a blissful nature touches it,

filling my senses with glee.

Inside of the park, there’s a mural of a horizon.

A red sun sets on the brick wall, strangers talk,

one eats a late lunch (or early dinner)

The day has officially slowed down

and people are resting now.

Touring the windy streets of Philadelphia,

I find, at a big cross-road,

a large melodic tree

swaying over a white wooden patio

above the corner’s taqueria.

It’s a mystery, whoever lives in the house up there.

It looks majestic.

I’ve never seen it before.

Like a long arm reaching down

to a chosen friend,

the slanted railing of someone’s porch

is covered in faux red and yellow leaves,

and Halloween decor.

October, we’re here!

Crossing the big 11th street,

a man and his son race the street lights,

their bodies moving beneath

the big Philadelphia clock

that hovers in the distance.

The street is so wide,

we trail the distance

like moving through a swimming pool,

but much faster,

propelling ourselves forward

parallel to each other.

Low and behold,

a small tree of red berries

hangs low over a red car

in protection.

In the distance,

beside a small building,

a dangling tree hugs it tight.

Above it,

a sky of wonder hovers;

metallic silver and blue mesh,

creating victory

as the day changes into velvet.
